The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) urged the government on Tuesday to protect the wellbeing of agricultural workers and their livelihoods amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) urged the government on Tuesday to protect the wellbeing of agricultural workers and their livelihoods amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
CHR spokesperson Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia said the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the need to provide adequate protection to agricultural workers who have been negatively impacted by the community quarantines imposed.
She said aid from the government could come in the form of financial and technical support for small-scale food producers such as peasants, indigenous peoples, and fishers, among many others.
