DUMAGUETE CITY The local government of Mabinay in Negros Oriental has been placed under a state of calamity after armyworms attacked 28 of the mountainous towns 32 barangays.
Mayor Ernesto Uy said on Friday that the armyworms have attacked a variety of crops, as well as grasslands, affecting the majority of the populace whose livelihood is mostly farming. Damage to crops, such as corn and sugarcane, has been reported.
The armyworm infestation has reached an alarming proportion, Uy said.
