NAGA CITY, Sept. 28 (PIA) Based on the 2016 International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) research, Biotechnology or BioTech crops are the fastest adopted crop technology in recent history, reflecting farmer satisfaction of their benefits due to bigger income and a promise of more stable food sources.
This was based on the last 21 years of biotech crop’s commercialization, highlighted, among others by the statistics on the number of countries planting biotech crops, which quadrupled from 6 in 1996 to 26 in 2016.
ISAAA’s record also showed that last year, the Philippines ranked as the top grower of biotech or genetically modified (GM) crops in Southeast Asia and was cited as the biggest producer globally last year.
