LOS BANOS, Laguna, Dec. 7 — How to meet the needs of increasing and changing food demands while conserving biodiversity, and ultimately achieving sustainable development? This was the challenge posed to agricultural and environmental experts and officials of the ASEAN Member States during the Multi-sectoral Workshop on Mainstreaming Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture on December 4-6 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The workshop was organized by the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB); the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA); the European Union (EU) through the Biodiversity Conservation and Management of Protected Areas in ASEAN Project; the ASEAN Development Fund through the ASEAN Secretariat; and Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

The workshop aims to engage the environment and agriculture sectors in the ASEAN Member States to develop a common understanding of agrobiodiversity conservation and sustainable use, and identify possible areas of collaboration and supportive processes among the relevant ASEAN sectoral bodies and development partners towards mainstreaming biodiversity in the agriculture sector.
