DAVAO CITY, Sept. 19 (PIA)- Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has signed Executive Order 23 activating the Rice Supply and Monitoring Committee. The functions of the committee include: conduct a study, analysis and evaluation on the causes of price fluctuations of rice in the city; recommend measures to address unwarranted price increases and supply shortages; regular monitoring of public and private markets, stores and rice warehouses; activate hotlines and consumer complaints desks; deputize barangay officials and NGOs to monitor abnormal price increase; coordinate with different government agencies to prevent unwarranted price increase and rice hoarding.

The composition of the committee will include the City Mayor as chairperson and its members include the chair of the Sangguniang Panglungsod Committee on Agriculture and Food, Business Bureau, City Economic Enterprise Office, City Agriculturist Office, Department of Agriculture Regional Office and the Department of Trade and Industry Regional Office.
The EO comes in the heels of rice shortages being experienced by several cities. The EO seeks to prevent the City from falling into the same predicament. (PIA/RG Alama)
