The Department of Agriculture (DA) is eyeing the liberalization of fertilizer importation as part of the efforts to bring down the cost of producing rice in the country.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is eyeing the liberalization of fertilizer importation as part of the efforts to bring down the cost of producing rice in the country.

Senator Cynthia Villar, chair of senate committee on agriculture and food, said Agriculture Secretary William Dar told her that the DA will push for a policy that will allow the entry of cheaper imported fertilizers to aid rice farmers in the country.

Data showed that fertilizer accounts for around 12 to 17 percent of the Filipino rice farmers total production cost.
