DA reports P531-M initial agri damage due to ‘Tisoy’

MANILA –The initial damage and losses to the agriculture sector caused by Typhoon Tisoy have reached PHP531.61 million, the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported on Wednesday.

MANILA –The initial damage and losses to the agriculture sector caused by Typhoon Tisoy have reached PHP531.61 million, the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported on Wednesday.

According to the department’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Operation Center, the damage and losses covered a total of 14,637 hectares of agricultural areas in Calabarzon and Bicol Region, with an estimated production loss of 18,455 metric tons (MT) affecting some 39,808 farmers.

The affected crops were rice, corn, and high-value crops. For rice alone, some PHP318.94 million were recorded damaged with 11,539 MT volume production losses planted to 12,435 hectares.
