BANSALAN, Davao del Sur — The Department of Agriculture (DA) and Universal Robina Corp. (URC) signed a PHP5-million program to boost the potato industry in the country.
In a ceremonial planting of potato at the far-flung village of Balutakay on Friday, Secretary Emmanuel Piol said under the partnership, the URC will provide high quality Granola potato seeds from Canada, a widely-cultivated variety, while DA, through its High-Value Crops Development Program, will provide farm inputs to identified potato farmers cooperatives.
URC initially handed over 17 metric tons or 17,000 kilograms of G3 Granola seed tubers.
