Farmers urged to plant yellow corn for livestock feeds

DAVAO CITY With the prohibition on swill feeding for backyard hogs, the Department of Agriculture in Region 11 (DA-11) said it is calling on corn farmers to plant yellow corn to address the demand for livestock feeds.

DAVAO CITY With the prohibition on swill feeding for backyard hogs, the Department of Agriculture in Region 11 (DA-11) said it is calling on corn farmers to plant yellow corn to address the demand for livestock feeds.

Aside from providing the right information to the farmers, we have also noted a decrease in corn production area. So through this platform, we educate them that there is a need for expansion areas devoted to corn, said Noel Provido, DA-11 information officer, during the graduation of School-on-the-Air (SOA) on Sustainable Corn Production in Sloping Areas (SCopSA) on Friday.

Led by DA-11-Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS), SOA is a training course on agricultural crops and commodities for farmers, who must finish the two-month learning module and pass the exams.
