SOME retail firms in the United States are keen on importing young coconuts, or buko, from the Philippines owing to its health benefits, outgoing Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piol said.

SOME retail firms in the United States are keen on importing young coconuts, or buko, from the Philippines owing to its health benefits, outgoing Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piol said.

Piol, who was in the US recently, said three firms, two of which are owned by Filipino-Americans, have expressed interest to import buko starting this September.

These firms are: Seafood City Supermarket Chain, Sun Tropics and 99 Ranch Supermarkets. The first two firms are owned by Filipino-Americans, Piol said.
