DAVAO CITY A top government official has urged local farmers to venture into diversified farming to increase productivity.
Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs Ernesto Gonzales told farmers during the Livestock Forum and Public Consultation recently to go into diversified farming, identifying it as an alternative agricultural platform following the recent African swine fever (ASF) outbreak here which hit three barangays.
So if I do not have my hogs (anymore), I still have my chicken, I have my vegetables, I have a small fish pond, then it’s okay, Gonzales said, pointing out that diversified farming allows a cycle where it produces zero waste and there is no need for investments of inputs since everything runs in a cycle.
