Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech), an attached agency to the Department of Agriculture (DA) in charge in the development of post-harvest equipment and systems, is set to commercialize a couple of post-harvest technologies to boost the countrys production for onion and livestock.

In two separate interviews, PHilMech Researcher Cecilia Antolin shared details on the Mechanized Onion Planting System that is set for commercialization this November, while PHilMech Researcher Edgar Flores is now promoting the use of a postharvest system that can convert sweet potato vines (SPV) into feeds for livestock.

Antolin said that using a 10-row Hand Tractor Driven Mechanical Seeder, the country could boost the production of onion both in terms of quantity as well as the quality.
