AMID the challenges hounding the sugar industry, including the need to adapt to modern farming technology, the top official of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) said local sugarcane farmers should be given more access to financing.
SRA Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica, who spoke at the Business Summit held at the agency’s office in Bacolod City on Friday, March 16, said financing is very important to enable sugarcane farmers overcome current industry challenges.
Both the SRA and the Department of Agriculture (DA) have recognized the continuous depletion of sugarcane farm laborers in the country which can be addressed through farm mechanization.
